Conference Champion: Clemson

ACC Coach of the year: Dabo Swinney – It seems as if you could make an argument to give Dabo Swinney this award every year. And if Dabo takes the tigers to their 4th straight playoff -which most people, including myself believe he will- he is a lock for ACC Coach of the year yet again.

ACC Offensive POY: Ryan Finley – In a conference with very few proven starters at the quarterback position, Ryan Finley is the exception. The redshirt junior, Ryan Finley is coming off of one of the best seasons in N.C State history in which he threw for 3,514 yards. Finley returns with nearly all of his weapons back including one of the top wide receivers in the country, Kelvin Harmon. However, on the defensive end of the ball key losses like Bradley Chubb, B.J Hill, and Justin Jones will hurt the Wolf Pack tremendously. While N.C State’s defense takes a step back in 2018, look for Ryan Finley to pick up the slack and make a real case for the Heisman.

ACC Defensive POY: Christian Wilkins- Clemson’s defensive line has the potential to be something truly special this year. With 3 potential first round draft picks returning (Christian Wilkins, Clelin Ferrell and Austin Bryant) opposing quarterbacks will dread playing in Death Valley. The star power Clemson’s defensive line provides eliminates the option to double-team a player who otherwise would be. Christian Wilkins is productive even when he is being double teamed; it will be intriguing to see what he is capable in a one on one battle in the trenches.

ACC Coach on the hot seat: Bobby Petrino – Replacing the most dynamic quarterback college football has ever seen will be an enormous challenge for Bobby Petrino in 2018. It will seem even more unattainable with a defense that resembles the St. Mary School for the blind. Louisville struggled to be competitive when they had a human cheat code at quarterback these past couple years. To say they will struggle without Michael Vick 2.0 at quarterback would be an understatement. I’d be shocked if Bobby Petrino still has a job at the end of the year.

Preseason College Basketball Rankings and Players to Watch

*From NCAA Official Website Players to Watch: Grayson Allen(G, Duke): Fasten your seatbelts because we're coming in for a landing. The most polarizing player in the NCAA is back and he's ready to perform for the top ranked Blue Devils this year. Allen finished his junior campaign averaging 14.5 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 3.5 APG, and 1.0 TPG(trips per game). As demonstrated during his sophomore year, Allen has all the skills to be a top player in the NCAA, but if his behavioral antics continue then it could be another down season for the senior. Whether you love or hate Duke, Allen is a player that you cannot hide from your eyes. Allonzo Trier(G, Arizona): Returning for his junior season, Trier finished his sophomore year averaging 17.2 PPG while shooting 46% from the field and 39% from 3-point range. Trier made the smart move in returning to Arizona for his junior year and not entering the NBA Draft. After missing Arizona's first 19 games serving a drug related ...

Personally, I couldn't agree more as Georgia has had the most impressive resume of all of the above ranked teams. A very deserved rank. Notre Dame #3: Notre Dame at three? This, as well as the Georgia at 1 ranking was the biggest shock. Year after year we see the same bias towards Notre Dame from the committee but I must admit, their lone loss is against number one ranked Georgia. We will see how real ...

The Baker Mayfield Effect

By Kyle Langston Twitter: @kylelangston49 Monday June 11 th , the date that Lake Travis class of ’21 quarterback Nate Yarnell received his first offer from the University of Houston Cougars. Though isn't it odd that an up and coming program with a promising 2018 season would spend their time looking at a freshman quarterback. Houston comes off of a 7-win season behind potential 2018 defensive player of the year Ed Oliver. To justify this, Yarnell must have out of this world stats from his freshman year, but upon inspection of the 2017 varsity roster he is nowhere to be found. So we see for perhaps the first time ever, a competitive Division 1 football program extending an offer to a freshman quarterback who has never played a snap of varsity football. The reason? Nate attends the same high school that 2018 first overall pick Baker Mayfield once did. The case of Nate Yarnell is not one that stands alone. During Mayfield’s rather brief Heisman acceptance...
